Are IN domains really in?

dot IN domains are still some of the cheaper domains that you can register, only $3.99 through Dynadot and Name.com or cheaper via Whiz.in, but this registrar doesn't accept Paypal payments.

Certainly INFO domains are even cheaper but irremediably linked to both cheapness and spam, so perhaps maybe IN domains is an alternative to INFO, starting with the fact that the URL saves two characters (FO) when typing.

Personally I have registered an IN domain with a matching INFO redirecte to the IN just in case someone is confused with this, but I wonder if this is an "in" way to get some dignirty over INFO domains.

First of all .in domains is actually India's domian , like .com is for Commercial sites world wide, .com.au is for Commercial Australian and others like .ca is for Canada, .co.uk for United Kingdom, each have their own purpose but these days people buy them to make their domains look cool, not actually for actually what they where first intended for. Like I have thepie.me which is just for the lulz, which .me domains are actually intended for YOU, where they advertise the .me domains with things like "me, express yourself".

.info's where meant for informational sites, like .net's are for "Network infrastructure".

I've only ever had .com and .net domains. There are some domain extensions that just don't portray enough credibility; if a link I was about to click ended on ".in", I wouldn't click it because as you said, it seems as though it stood for INFO which is often related to scam sites and all that. I'd rather have a domain extension that is known and trusted such as .com, .net, or .org.

So true, I believe that even the new dot CO domains are not as credible as a dot COMs are.

In fact CO domains also seem to be a misspelled form of COM and I would intuitively add the missing "M" at the end if someone would suggest me to visit one of those.

I have this with .cm domains, whenever I see one I automatically type .com
