What is the best Stats Software?

Before going ahead, this is not a thread to discuss Google Analytics or Cpanel Awstats because the question is about a software that one can install and control directly instead of using third-party providers.

Personally I don't care how accurate is an external service but to control on my own each and every aspect of my website so, anyone knows what is the best software to track several domains from a single location?

Many years back I tried BB clone, the so called PHP Web counter on steroids, but I never found those steroids and being this a flat-file database script is rather hard to setup.

Any suggestion I can look at to run my own stats?

I've always used Google Analytics so I don't have first hand experience with any software but I recommend JMP. If you look up reviews online you'll find very positive ones and from what my friends have told me, it works great and is more accurate and reliable than the others. You should check out their website and get the trial to see if you like it.

I've been hearing a lot about Piwik. It's a PHP program you can install yourself and you manage all the data.

Thank you guys, I have plenty of time this weekend so I think I'm gonna give it a try to both JMP and Piwik.

Like I said, I prefer to manage on my own every aspect of the service, plus is more exciting to me experiment with an installation that having to learn how to navigate inside a present service, in example, I'm still confused with Google Analytics (for years) forgetting always where to retrieve the piece of code when changing templates made me forget to retain the code offered first hand after setting up a website.

That's terrible to me and annoys me, really..

I really like AWStats. I just uploaded it to FTP and it even gave me all my previous history of hits etc, I don't know how they did that. I tried Google Analytics but for some reason it seemed to slow down my forum quite a bit.

How about Google Analytics with CloudFlare? It has a function to include the newest Google Analytics on every page (including 404 pages and such) the user visits.

I like cPanel's Awstats, I provide it to my clients (I run a hosting business). It doesn't use a huge amount of memory either.
