RE: what is the best forum software
I'll have to agree with the majority of the members; myBB is a great software. It's user friendly and the interface works great too. It's not too pricey and can handle a fair number of members.

MyBB is the free best "Bulletin Board" software I have ever seen.

Pro:
- Easy to use
- Easy plugin system
- Easy theme system
- A lot of themes
- A lot of plugins
- Huge community

Cons:
- Not everything is perfect but for me there is no contra.

RE: what is the best forum software
It depends on the features you'd like.

I think right now, myBB has the most plugins. That is what this forum runs on.

They all have around the same number of plugins and extensions, but MyBB holds a little bit more.

It's also become very popular. I know vBulletin is lacking a lot because people don't want to pay. If you pirate it, they find out - they can have the hoster remove the forum/account. I believe niftyhost should not allow nulled forum scripts, to avoid any issues with forum developers.

phpBB - I haven't really run into lately. Mostly it's MyBB forums.

You just have to test. There are several websites where you can test MANY open source applications!

MyBB is better.

If planning to have BIG community buy IPB.

That one HackForums.net site has a few million posts and it runs on MyBB... just goes to show that it is pretty scalable.

I doubt that you need to use paid software to run a big board!

This is possible with free software like MyBB, phpBB and so on.

RE: what is the best forum software
If you are looking for paid services, IP.Board by far is better than vBulletin. I have been an admin and owned two boards with both VB and IPB, and honestly, VB was really shitty.

Use IPB if your willing to pay. Otherwise use MyBB or phpBB.
Warm regards,
Nobody.

RE: what is the best forum software
We used vBulletin on ZemHost and it really sucked balls.

IPB is really much better.
