i want to set up forums for my website what is the best free open source forum out there besides simple machine forums or mybb?

MyBB is fantastic. SMF is okay.


There is phpBB, which is meant for high load operations and isn't simple to use.


I've never used this before, but Discuz forum relies heavily on javascript and flash to look pretty.


Advanced Electron Forum (AEF) is a rising star in the forum biz. It pretty much sucks.

Yeah MyBB & SMF are the the ones I know to work good.

i was looking for one that is open source so i could integrate it with my registration so people wont have to sign up twice to get full access to all the content

MyBB is open source, I believe.

Currently, I would recommend MyBB, as it's one of the best, but i would also recommend taking a look at SMF v2 once it comes out (it's currently in release candidate 3).
There's also PunBB and Vanilla Forums, but i don't know whether they're good or not.

I personally use phpBB but that's for advanced users and it's even hard for me. Try MyBB or SMF. They are both great.
