What is a 'Cloud' (e.g. private cloud, computing cloud)

the reason why i am asking is because i'm thinking of buying a new macbook and use this laptop as a server for my use (put my website on, and maybe my clients websites.. but not a website hosting service.) and i saw ubuntu server... and on this page... http://www.ubuntu.com/cloud (ubuntu server edition) thanks! |

RE: What is a 'Cloud' (e.g. private cloud, computing cloud)
Wikipedia knows a lot of things. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_computing
(Private cloud / public cloud is explained in "Deployment models" section.) I don't understand what the hell a "cloud" is, either, though. By the way, it's a very bad idea to use a laptop as a server, since it's pretty possible that it will overheat after running for hours.

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friends or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee. -- Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions (1624), John Donn |
