Unique website ideas?
I'm looking for that one website idea that I can truly champion and drive into the market.

So far, the ONE idea I've had that was halfway plausible was running a trading service through which I would be the middleman.

Quote:You'd get features such as want lists, need lists, have lists, etc. and in addition, pictures of the items would be REQUIRED. You'd hover your mouse over the item and a picture would show up displaying the item up for trade. You'd then click a button that lets you trade.

You'd mail your items to an address given to you and include a reference # on your envelope, and we'd take over from there. You'd be able to post additional directions to the center such as "make sure items are in mint condition". On the website, you'd be able to see the status of your trade. For example, if your item was received, it would indicate that along on your control panel in the website saying the center received the item. Once both items are received, they would be sent to the appropriate parties, and both users would receive points based on speed, reliability, and integrity.

PROS
-professional middleman to take care of it for you, no more wondering how or if your trade went wrong, be updated step by step
-pictures of items up for sale REQUIRED and VERIFIED by trading center
-no extra charge
-easy to use website with lists and interaction between users
-manage your trades online with our reference numbers and be able to cancel trades halfway
-trades get mailed out ON or DAY AFTER trade received

CONS
-the money for the additional shipping would come out of my pockets, so the site will have lots of ads, BUT NO SURVEYS OR POPUPS
-trades might take 4 - 6 days longer than expected
-your trades might get lost being shipped to the trading center, and we would not be able to compensate you for that
-as of now, the trades would get sent to my house which is an apartment, (OR P.O. BOX if I figure out how to set one up) and that looks shady

RE: Unique website ideas?
That idea is pretty damn good, if you don't want it, I do.

Unique ideas are decreasing in number daily. I'm working on one for NiftyHost, and it's going to make us profit - it also happens to be a secret.

Here are some ideas...

1. An arcade that aggregates many sites into one transparently, so you can have hundreds of thousands of SWFs at your fingertips. Would need a server of your own, it would not work too well on a shared host like this because of safety limits.

2. A site that provides a shared platform for microblogging sites. So people can continue to clog up the net with Twitter clones.
Hi! I'm Zach, and I founded NiftyHost. If you need anything, just PM me! :)

Hmm, #1 isn't that shabby.

I like #2 of Zack's personally, everyones trying to do their own Twitter clone. What they don't realize is that, Twitter was formed out of a unique idea, and if you try to copy that, you're not unique at all.

I too have an idea up my sleeve, however am not revealing it until I can work on it. Mind you, Website Inquirer was formed off a pretty unique idea...

It completely depends on what you want to do, I guess. Start a forum that's truly unique, the threads are based off in trends and the forums expand to a user's own preference... A bit all over the place, but it could work.

You can get money from google adsense and banners that means no pop ups or surveys but text links and banners so if the site gets a lot of people you can get some extra money for shipping and handling.
Also i wouldnt open a site that would get too big if there wasnt a way to make money.
