RE: Should governments be able to block websites?
So for some "secret" reason which I won't tell you I will redesign and rethink my opinion. The debate wether the governments should be able to block websites or not is quite a hard nut for me.

In all the years I've been watching and reading news related to the Internet and the happenings. I found it always useless that governments block websites like Twitter, Youtube or Facebook because they are afraid of other people opinions about how the politicians are acting and working for the country.

Thus it is very sad that some governments still do this I have to say that governments should have a limited premission to block websites or web services. I think that critical websites with content such as child porn, terroristic material, fraud, credit card stealing, hacking and abusiv services should be blocked once there are many abuse reports about them.

If governments block sites in the way I mentioned before the world will go crazy and there will be a world wide roit like in London just in the whole world. Everyone will fight against police and the politicans. Anonymous will DDOS more websites, hack more websites and embarrass more people.

That's all I can say about it. Governments should only be allowed to do it when it's a need.

A great example for blocking websites which are good without a reason is the great firewall of China.

No, I don't think it's right for government institutions to block websites. I'm a firm advocate of freedom of information. As long as the people are not being harmed in any way by the contents of a certain website, then governments should leave it be. If a particular website breaks the law, then it should be put to trial and punished. Blocking websites seems like an attempt to further oppress and control people. It should not be done without enough reason and justification.
