Well, I just came across this interesting article this morning, and I found it quite interesting:

http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2012...en-farming

To shorten up the article, it's about a proposal to establish a new type of chicken broiler farms, where you remove (or being born without) the head (or cerebral cortex?) from chickens (basically making it a living brain dead vegetable) and the feet, thus making more room. The advantage of this, is that the chickens don't actually feel the horror of being slaughtered and don't die from overgrowth (as they normally do), the disadvantage, well some people find the idea immensely unethical.

What do you think? - An ingenious idea to help overcome our global food problems, or a despicable monstrosity?

- Ethically?
- Economically (fx. increasing output 4 times)?
- Rationally?

This has been a major issue recently here in our country so I thought this would be a great topic to debate on.

The Roman Catholic religion has always voiced out their objection in a recent proposed bill that requests for the wide usage of contraceptives and that it should be available for everyone. The author of this proposed bill aims to reduce the rate of HIV infection and other STD's. It is also created to help solve the over-population at present.

So my question is, are you in favor of this? Do you agree that everyone, even the unmarried ones, can avail these contraceptives like condoms and pills as long as it is helping them?

I am personally for this proposed bill. But, I agree that this should have a limitation as well. Making these contraceptives available doesn't necessarily mean that we can abuse the use of them.

Personally, I'm fine with the idea of abortion. However, there will be some people who will end up abusing abortion if it were legalized. Allowing it would make sex seem less consequential. People would think, "Oh, I have something to fall back on if something were to happen." But at the same time, people should have enough sense to use contraception most of the time. But contraceptives aren't effective all of the time. There's a small percentage, ~5% of all cases, where they fail to work properly, potentially causing an unwanted pregnancy. Abstinence would be the better option in the first place, but that's not what happens in actuality. Most likely, the woman will end up with a child she doesn't want. It's definitely not the most ideal situation for anyone, so abortion should be legalized. After all, people have the right to their own personal lives.

Any thoughts?

I personally feel that there are two factors that are hindering the legal recognition of gay marriage, religion and the feeling of "that's not right." However, much of the debate over the legality of gay marriage has to do with how a marriage is defined. Is it between a man and a woman or can it extend to a man and a man or a woman and a woman? The problem with re-definining the legal definition of a marriage is that then, people would be allowed to marry animals or inanimate objects if such a scope was widened. Personally, I don't oppose gay marriage, but there should be a separate "category" or some other label other than the term "marriage" so that both sides will be happy.

So are you against it? For it? Discuss.

Recently, a popular piracy site in the UK was blocked after the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) won a court case. Many people feel that this was unjust, that people should be allowed to read (and download) whatever material they want as a part of the "right to freedom of speech" principle. They felt that this right was violated when the government blocked the website. Do you think that governments should be able to restrict citizens from browsing certain sites? Why do you think this?
---
I think that governments should not restrict the websites that their citizens visit. First of all, it does violate free speech. If a government shut down a bookstore for containing offensive books, the public outcry would be immense. That is basically the same thing as closing down a website for containing items which a particular group may find offensive. Also, if a website contains actual illegal content (e.g. child pornography or pirated material), the government should go after the actual people who are responsible, not after a domain name or an IP address. There is also another problem with "only" censoring illegal content: the slippery slope. Governments tend to never be satisfied with their original field of duty. What starts out as a reasonable blocking of illegal things may quickly develop into the censorship of any material the government finds unsuitable for the masses, as is the case with the Great Firewall of China.
