If the iPad was a frenzy episode in many people's life, the release of tablets built by other companies has contributed to make this gadget truly popular and to the extent that it is actually rivaling with laptops, netbooks and smartphones.

Due to its small size, portability and features, a tablet can substitute conveniently a netbook or smartphone when being on the go.

However I would like to hear from you what is your preferred gadget and why, specially if you think that tablets are just trendy but not a technology to stay.

Personally I like tablets (but not the iPad), however I have not find the right model that comprises all what I would like to carry with me, which is a little of all of them.

And you?

Half a year ago someone had given me an "hp web hosting server appliance" and I also have the quick start guide. The quick start guide says “hp web hosting server appliance sa1100 and sa1120”.

So my question is; what is an hp web hosting server appliance?

What does it do?

Can I hock it up and host a website on it, or does it need to connect to something else in order for me to use?

(I know it needs to connect to the internet some how, ether the hp web hosting server appliance connects to the internet or it connects to a server that it connects to the internet.)

I tried following the quick start guide that came with it, but I’m not able to get it work. I have hocked it up to an old router and think it would show up in the list of devices but nothing? So this is stumping me.

I remember some years back when having a scanner, a printer, a good pair of speakers, or any other hardware device was a must have to round your computer system.

However the increasing popularity of laptops and netbooks makes not necessary to plug external speakers, while a PDF printer makes easier sharing a document through a USB stick or delivered electronically than printing it on paper.

Do you think that peripherals are nowadays thing of the past or still absolutely needed for your daily activities?

Dear Niftyhost Members and Clients,

In recent times the Internet is growing and poor countries get the Internet that other rich countries have to pay several million dollars per year. However, in most countries, the customers are getting scammed lately by their Internet Service Providers. And noone does something against this problem.

So I decided to start a small survey. I don't need your private data or things similar to privacy. What I need is simple. First, I need the name of your Internet Service Provider. And secondly I need the plan that is offered to you by your ISP (I mean the internet plan you currently use). And last I need your opinion about your ISP and the Internet.

My current ISP: German Telekom (Deutsche Telekom)

Well, my opinion remains the same for this ISP. It is probably the largest ISP in Germany. It is the company from which you first get a telephone connection. You'd think the German Telekom is like the first TV broadcaster in the country. It is the most important. The prices are fair but a bit high if one compares the German Telekom with other ISPs. It always achieves full speed and quality (if you have the lines). I get disconnected from the Internet several times a day. Sometimes I lose the full connection to the DSL server. I have 88% Packet Loss on all testing platforms on the internet. My ping is 40 - 50ms avg on every test (includes servers in near area), while other people have a ping of 10 - 25ms. I can't change my ISP as there are no other ISPs in my area. I rate my ISP with awesome 10/10 stars .

I don't quite know if this is able to bypass the great chinese firewall, but some years ago my ISP (Telenor) along with it's branches was judged to block all access to sites such as the pirate bay, mp3raid and such sites*. I never really used them, but i didn't like the fact that i was actually blocked from some sites. Therefore, I found out that i was able to change the DNS server to bypass the ISP firewalls. I also found that that i was able to bypass the school firewall with this method. I don't know whether this is able to bypass the chinese firewall, tho'.

There is two which i prefer to use:
- Google DNS:

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

- OpenDNS:

208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

Alternatively, there some other DNS servers here:
http://www.tech-faq.com/public-dns-servers.html

Guides to changing the settings:
XP (Windows...): http://www.mediacollege.com/computer/network/dns.html
Linux: http://nixcraft.com/linux-software/507-s...twork.html

*Just want to clearly state, that I don't encourage piracy in any way.
