[SOLV'D] Why niftyhost... why???
Both Gmail, Windows and Linux is indeed software. The terms "x-ware" are abstract, and in this case, "software" covers 3 types of software categories, System Software (Windows, Linux), Programming Software (Editors, Compilers) and Application Software (Video games, Office etc.).
Then there's another group called Web software (Gmail), which often is seen as a subgroup of application software. Initially, the term software was coined in contrast to hardware, where hardware was something that could be touched (I.e. CPU, RAM etc.), whereas software is what runs inside the hardware, and cannot be touched. You can touch RAM, but you can't touch an OS. |
