Huh, I would recommend you to try lftp instead. lftp offers a lot of benefits over the old netkit-ftp:

The commands of lftp are almost the same with netkit-ftp;
Native SFTP support, together with FXP, FTPS, HTTP(S), and WebDav, IPv6 support;
Background jobs;
Bookmark support;
Scheduling support;
Scripting support;
Native mirroring support;
netkit-ftp was last updated 10 years ago (July 8, 2000)...

Of course, if you are following Worse is better logic, it's another thing... :)
