Alternatives to Paintshop - MyDigitalpoint - 07-23-2012

Paintshop is probably the most complete graphic editor that one can use to design almost anything, however its price tag makes it not a software that everyone can purchase, particularly people who rarely needs to edit a graphic or create an original design.

I was doing a research on free, and less complex alternatives to Paintshop and I found these interesting applications that you may like to test,

Cinepaint
Twisted Brush Open Studio
Pos Free Photo Editor
Pos PRO Photo Editor (now freeware)
Phoxo
Photoscape
Fotografix

Any one has tried at least one of these applications?
Or can anyone suggest some other alternatives?

Please feel free to share your thoughts.

I would also take look at Pixlr as another option.

A number of people recommended GIMP but I found it to be taxing on one's computer resources and so I uninstalled it.

I'm going to take a look at: Pos PRO Photo Editor to see what it has to offer, thanks for the info.

No problem :)

Certainly I forgot about Pixlr, which is a great tool to edit graphics online, and more than once has served me good when I have to connect from a hot spot and needing to do a quick retouch to a logo or avatar.

If you're in college, just go to your college book store and pick up the Adobe suite. It's dirt cheap to students. If you're not a student currently, ask someone whom you know who is a student to get it for you. I got it for like $20 when I was in college.

There are some other freeware editors out there as well such as Paint.net. But they aren't as robust.

I also heard of a vector based image editing tool that's free as well called Inkscape.

I'm seriously wondering why I haven't seen this before ;).

My to alternatives to photoshop are:

- Paint.NET (you will need to install some plugins to get much more features)
- GIMP (it has the most stuff but a few plugins wont hurt :P)

There are also a few paid but since I don't use them I wont mention them.
