What's your stand on contraceptives? - Cecil15 - 08-20-2011 This has been a major issue recently here in our country so I thought this would be a great topic to debate on. The Roman Catholic religion has always voiced out their objection in a recent proposed bill that requests for the wide usage of contraceptives and that it should be available for everyone. The author of this proposed bill aims to reduce the rate of HIV infection and other STD's. It is also created to help solve the over-population at present. So my question is, are you in favor of this? Do you agree that everyone, even the unmarried ones, can avail these contraceptives like condoms and pills as long as it is helping them? I am personally for this proposed bill. But, I agree that this should have a limitation as well. Making these contraceptives available doesn't necessarily mean that we can abuse the use of them. RE: What's your stand on contraceptives? - MyDigitalpoint - 08-21-2011 I do agree with you. I think people have the right to decide when they want to have children if they ever want to have them, at the time that contraceptives reduce the risk to acquire (or spread) sexually transmitted disease. However many people, specially the young ones, tend to believe that contraceptives are designed to enable their promiscuity and very often pregnancy occurs among teenage girls who sometimes discard any method to see "how it feels without it." In most countries where the Roman Catholic Church is the predominant religion, this is a debate topic because government are usually engaged in campaigns promoting sex with responsibility, involving naturally contraceptive methods that the Church dislikes, but really necessary due to both STD and over-population. RE: What's your stand on contraceptives? - pqnation - 08-23-2011 I agree with you, contraceptive are there to help out couples and well, people in general by preventing pregnancies and lowering the risk of getting an STD or HIV. However, these contraceptives are often abused by the younger generation who see contraceptives as an enabler for promiscuity (as mydigitalpoint explained). But it is always better to have these available than to have to get through life without any sort of protection. And I believe that even if the young ones didn't have them, some would still be as sexually active as they are now. RE: What's your stand on contraceptives? - artistry - 08-30-2011 Hi, Are these contraceptives going to be given away free? Is that the premise? Teenagers, as someone else mentioned, will be indulging themselves sexually, as soon as they begin to feel the hormones kicking, and they can find a willing partner. That is a given in most societies. So, with the mores being what they are, and the aids virus still not curable, I should think that contraceptives would be a good start, in trying to eliminate a few potential problems. Pregnancy and aids being two. As well as other contagious and spreadable diseases. Older grown-up people should have enough maturity, to use good judgment in sexual situations. Parents should be responsible and inform their children about the hazards of unprotected sex, but sometimes, young adults don't listen, are not interested or think they know all there is to know. This could help to educate, as to encouraging promiscuity, that train may have left the station a long time ago, on its own. Cheers. RE: What's your stand on contraceptives? - angeldrb - 04-09-2012 Religion, it seems, is trying to control every aspect of a believer's life, limiting his freedom, and condemning him if he doesn't follow its self-appointed laws. Religion should not meddle with politics because if the government is forced to side with a certain religion, then it will be a little too much discriminatory and unfair to those who do not share the same beliefs. That being said, I fully support the reproductive health bill (yes, I'm from your country, too). Contraceptives are of great help to our sexual health. Not to mention that it will prevent a drastic population growth that would lead to other major societal problems. |
