Operation Facebook

DATE: November 5, 2011.

TARGET: https://facebook.com

Message:

Attention citizens of the world,

We wish to get your attention, hoping you heed the warnings as follows:
Your medium of communication you all so dearly adore will be destroyed. If you are a willing hacktivist or a guy who just wants to protect the freedom of information then join the cause and kill facebook for the sake of your own privacy.

Facebook has been selling information to government agencies and giving clandestine access to information security firms so that they can spy on people from all around the world. Some of these so-called whitehat infosec firms are working for authoritarian governments, such as those of Egypt and Syria.

Everything you do on Facebook stays on Facebook regardless of your "privacy" settings, and deleting your account is impossible, even if you "delete" your account, all your personal info stays on Facebook and can be recovered at any time. Changing the privacy settings to make your Facebook account more "private" is also a delusion. Facebook knows more about you than your family. http://www.physorg.com/news170614271.html http://itgrunts.com/2010/10/07/facebook-steals-numbers-and-data-from-your-iph....

You cannot hide from the reality in which you, the people of the internet, live in. Facebook is the opposite of the Antisec cause. You are not safe from them nor from any government. One day you will look back on this and realise what we have done here is right, you will thank the rulers of the internet, we are not harming you but saving you.

The riots are underway. It is not a battle over the future of privacy and publicity. It is a battle for choice and informed consent. It's unfolding because people are being raped, tickled, molested, and confused into doing things where they don't understand the consequences. Facebook keeps saying that it gives users choices, but that is completely false. It gives users the illusion of and hides the details away from them "for their own good" while they then make millions off of you. When a service is "free," it really means they're making money off of you and your information.

Think for a while and prepare for a day that will go down in history. November 5 2011, #opfacebook . Engaged.

This is our world now. We exist without nationality, without religious bias. We have the right to not be surveilled, not be stalked, and not be used for profit. We have the right to not live as slaves.

You also have the right to choose who you give your personal information to.
So on November 5, a bunch of 13 year olds with Aspergers are going to try to get together and DDoS Facebook? Sounds like a massive fail to me.

I hope they will actually do something productive. If all they do is try and DDoS it they will fail hardcore. I dislike Facebook and want people to stop using it's privacy infringing services.

It's actually kind of hypocritical when you think about it. Anonymous is typically all for freedom of information and choice, yet they are going to attempt to bring down a site simply because they don't want people to use it.

You're right, it's a lot of kids.

Each of us is granted with freedom of choice whatever you do and regardless some oppositions that you may find on your way. When it comes to Facebook, you are free to join or not as you are free to share information if you want, but any person with a little common sense should know their limits or at least must admit that parents are not there just to annoy kids trying to censor them, but providing advice to protected them.

Depending on your own common sense and the right or wrong perception that you have on your parents's advice, you have nothing to worry about Facebook, and I believe there are many stupid movements using the same Facebook platform to spread stupidities like those of hacking a website for whatever concern that a person can workaround if he or she wants just by modifying his/her profile.

If they are a group that actually know what they are doing and not a bunch of kids, I would actually laugh that something as big as facebook can be brought down. Yeah, I use facebook EVERY day, but it wouldn't actually bother me much if it was taken down.

Facebook is a private company, meaning they can do whatever they want, as long as they obey the national laws, as well as their own privacy policy:

The registration to this privately owned website is completely optional, and when you joined you were asked to read and accept their terms of service and well as their privacy policy, if you couldn't you shouldn't have joined. It's common sense, which sadly isn't so common anymore. I admit, that they can be a bit long to read, but at least skim the text.

And why precisely are we slaves?
- It might just that the world is deceiving me, but I'm not forced into labor or buying specific products. I'm not starving, and generally feel happy, and freely speak about everything from cars and politics, to universe and hypocrisy.

Seeing it from a perspective, Anonymous kinda reminds me of an adolescent child trying out the limits of it's powers. Imagine turning 18, getting a drivers license and a car. Wouldn't you try to see how fast the car could drive? As far as I can see/know, Anonymous isn't really a group as such, but more like a socially-influenced decentralized technology-based social-movement (sorta like a transactive hivemind).

The concept itself is brilliant, because it allows the creation of fantastic things, but sadly, these have yet to come, because instead of using the great potential to create great things, like using their PC's to cure cancer (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/hdc/overview.do ) and search for aliens (Seti@Home), or debating politics, find/create/collaborate on new ideas or ways, which can improve our way of living. - They use it all for destructive means, or means what the hivemind deems appropriate, such as ruining a private company for everyone else because they don't like it (or perhaps because it's in competition to their own Anon+ network). I hope, that one day, the enormous good potential will be used for good means, but as I said before, common sense isn't too common anymore, and I might just keep dreaming my altruistic dreams.

Again, to sum it up, I don't judge/condemn Anonymous on their concept as it boasts with potential, but instead their awkward miscarry will to choose what we should like and shouldn't like, by ruining a media such as Facebook, infesting Youtube with porn disguised as ordinary family material, as well as pestering a young boys life, just because he don't like all the swearing going around. I must admit, I'm not all innocent, as I one time admit that might have been partaking in the LOIC'ing of the Westboro Baptist Church (the "God hate's everything from America to fags"-guys), despite their (WBC's) obvious annoying ignorance and intolerance towards other people, it's not really up for me to decide and censor, and I regret it, especially, if we want to live with our free uncensored expression.

Such potential, but sadly status quo is that on average, their attacks have been mostly retarded.

I also found a similar video threat from this Anonymous and here it is:

I think this isn't a mature move to do. We can't just blame Facebook for anything bad that is happening in our lives. I personally do not in this non-sense threat. This is just another prank, I guess.

And here's a video of a news report explaining about this:

Well, let's just wait and see what will happen on Nov.5, 2011.

This is quite pathetic. First off, I highly doubt anyone will be attacking Facebook. They might try, but I think they will have no luck. I know that it is impossible to remove your data and personal information off Facebook, but that's OUR problem. It's OUR choice to be on Facebook. It's OUR choice who the hell we give our information to. Second off, Facebook has several thousand servers, and if one of them goes down, no one will notice. In my personal opinion, this is complete and utter bullshit. I think people need to give up. We make our own choices, they don't make them for us.
