Habitable tunnels on the Moon - Vanilla - 04-12-2010

Quote:The Indian Chandrayaan-1 probe found tunnels below the moons surface that could quite possible be habitable for humans in the future. Indian space officials have said that the tunnels are thought to have been formed by lava and could offer the perfect shelter for humans in the future looking to live on the Moon.

Lol, and what about the oxygen or that lava... What if the lava comes back.. :P

Well, i don't suppose you are going to just habit them as their are. You are going to use the tunnels to build lunarbases there. That way they are protected against asteroids (as most meteors doesn't burn up in the atmosphere, unlike earth). Regarding the lava, I think they will just setup some measuring equipment and reinforce the weakspots.

What?

The tunnels were formed by ancient lava. These tunnels are just there for the taking, underground with no dangers, as the moon neither has any vulcanic activity or earthquakes. The most recent vulcanic eruption is 1.2 billions years old.

That might be true, but why would it stay away?
Are they sure it won't return?

I'm not an astronomic-geologist, but I think the chances of the lava returning to the same spots, is the same as New York getting bombarded by asteroids. Sometime, you just gotta take some risks :P - Besides as said, it can take decades before they get something built up there, by that time i think they know what their gonna do :)

Don't talk like that ;)
It's going to be a lot faster then you think :)
