Adobe Dreamweaver vs Microsoft Expression - trainhappy - 04-11-2010

What do you prefer better Adobe Dreamweaver or Microsoft Expression?

What is microsoft expression.. :P
Well, if I need to make a choice I would choose Adobe Dreamweaver.
I also added a poll to your post, hope you don't mind.

I've only used Dreamweaver, but I think that those tools are kinda crappy. They may seem nice at first, but building complex and dynamic websites is difficult with them.

That depends on what you are used to. I've love Dreamweaver. Not because it has some nice premade-scripts functionality, but because it makes it a lot easier to use it as a WYSIWYG editor. Especially the Absolute-positioning part of DIV's (apdiv) is nice. It really makes my life easier, as I can save 50% of my time to make something cross-browser compatible (IE too!) if you use it right. And the fact that is has an in-built FTP system only makes it rank up.

Microsoft Expression isn't bad either, but it's more organizationally orientated in the sense, that it provides you better access to what you specifically coded (like a complete list of your functions, variables, constants and whatnot). It lack some WYSIWYG tho', where Dreamweaver is based on the very nice webkit-engine (Safari and Chrome), Microsoft Expression is mainly based on...not surprisingly...the Trident Engine aka Internet Explorer. That ranks it down a little.

But when all that is said....it's worth mentioning that they both mainly rely on a coding section, where you code your code on your own, with a little help from Spry, Syntax-Highlighting, IntelliSense and such. Their WYSIWYG part is merely just a supplement to this.

Both editors is good and have come a long way since Dreamweaver 8 and Frontpage.

*My vote goes to Dreamweaver*
