The Burning monk + Colored photo - Vanilla - 01-12-2011 I recently found this photo, and was kinda fascinated by it. Some of you might have seen the black/white version of the award winning photography of a Vietnamese monk (Lâm Văn Tức) by Malcolm Browne. It was from back in the days when the Vietnam war was raging. The then seated and U.S. supported Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem (which himself was Catholic) had been making some reforms which allowed for prosecution of Buddhist Monks. - This of course made a lot of Buddhists rise and protest against the regime, eventually culminating with the symbolic self-immolation of Lâm Văn Tức, who while burning never moved a muscle or uttered a sound. - The picture then arrived at Kennedy's desk, which at some point was heard making the following remark: "Jesus Christ … This sort of thing has got to stop", which marked the beginning of the end, of the of American support for the Ngo Dinh Diem regime. The colored version of the original was colored by the reddit user mygrapefruit and took around 4 hours. Just thought I wanted to share it.
