The latest iteration of the series, 2.5 (currently in beta). As a user of this program, I can only recommend it. I've tried all the other applications, but eventhough this one is the only free one, it doesn't lack features compared to the other industry giants. Furthermore, this also allows for real-time 3d interaction, as it includes a very capable built-in gaming engine with physics and versatile API. It is also easily extendable because of it being Open Source as well as relying heavily on the Python programming language. And the best thing: It's 100% free!
blender is great, found it great coz its free and it's a small program i even saw this short film http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRsGyueVLvQ that proves it's capability.
I can only try Blender, the rest is well, well beyond my budget :(
who buy those?

People who buy those are mainly 3D enthusiasts who like to pay a little to get a little more comfort regarding workflows, pipelines, industry standards, etc.

I once bought the Newtek Lightwave (think it was version 7 back then), and I really enjoyed it - It was fast, cool and very intuitive (by the standards of that time). - The only reason I went on using Blender instead was the fact that it was written in a Python controlled environment, oh and, perhaps the price had a thing to say too.

Anyway, It's like asking who buys Macs and Windows, when you have Linux?
i Just tried Maya Auto desk ... it's good
