i think the best visual code editor ever is scite editor
http://www.scintilla.org/SciTE.html as it has very basic functions to very advanced functions and is easy to use. and the best part is it is free. and it can be used to edit a lots of languages :D

I agree that SciTE is pretty usefull, but I still prefer notepad++ because it's portable and you can create your own languages and use them on your usb :D.

if you want to use a code editor in ur usb, consider using a live linux [it will not give u only a code editor but a whole server ]
